5 practices for meditating daily to cultivate your magick
How meditation techniques can transform your magical practice
Meditation is a cornerstone practice in many magical and esoteric traditions. It serves as a gateway to self-awareness, inner stillness, and the refinement of one’s magical abilities.
One of the prevailing stereotypes about meditation is that you have to clear your mind in order to successfully meditate. While that can be one purpose for meditation, there are other reasons and purposes for meditation that can be used to help you transform your life and magical practice.
Meditation is not just about sitting still—it is a dynamic and transformative process that integrates breath, movement, visualization, and inner alchemy.
Below are 5 purposes for meditating that don’t focus on cultivating an empty mind.
Each of these purposes can greatly enhance your magical practice and the overall quality of your life.

1. Stillness Meditation: The Power of Presence
Stillness is typically treated as a state of profound silence.
However, I’ve always found that the real importance of stillness is as a form of deep awareness rather than an imposed silence. When we allow stillness to arise naturally rather than forcing ourselves to be quiet, we can experience deeper states of altered consciousness.
How to Practice Stillness:
Find a comfortable position, either sitting or lying down.
Close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths.
Allow your thoughts to surface without engaging with them. Observe them as if watching clouds drift across the sky.
When distractions arise, gently return to your breath.
The goal is not to eliminate thoughts but to cultivate an awareness that embraces them without attachment.
The Benefits: Stillness practice enhances mindfulness, increases clarity, and deepens one’s ability to perceive subtle magical energies.

2. Elemental Balancing Meditation
Another purpose for work with meditation involves attuning yourself to the natural and elemental energies of the environment around you.
Many people feel separated from nature and think that they have to go out into nature in order to encounter the primal elemental energies.
However, you already have access to the elemental spirits, regardless of where you live.
I work with elemental forces to create internal harmony in my life. This method aligns the body and mind with natural elemental energies and brings balance to me, and connects me with nature and the elements.
While I enjoy a hike in nature, I know can access the elements through consistent practices that allow me to connect with them everyday.
How to Practice Elemental Balancing:
Begin with Stillness – Enter a meditative state by focusing on deep, rhythmic breathing.
Invoke the Elements – Visualize each element entering your body:
Earth (Stability): Imagine roots extending from your body into the ground.
Water (Flow): Envision a gentle stream washing through you, dissolving tension.
Fire (Transformation): Picture a warm flame burning away doubts and negativity.
Air (Clarity): Feel a light breeze purifying your thoughts.
Balance the Elements – Spend time with each element before integrating them into a harmonious whole.
Close the Meditation – Express gratitude to the elements and return to awareness.
The Benefits: The elemental balancing meditation strengthens magical workings, deepens elemental connections, and promotes emotional equilibrium. You can also work with non-traditional elements such as emptiness, vibration or love.

3. Pathworking with Symbols
Another purpose for meditation involves the practice of pathworking. With pathworking you focus on a symbol or specific imagery and use it create an altered state of experience.
The altered state of experience can help you access specific metaphysical qualities or concepts and turn them into mediation points that allow you to integrate those influences into your life.
How to Practice:
Choose a symbol that represents a desired state (e.g., a spiral for transformation, an eye for vision).
Focus on the symbol in your mind’s eye or place it in front of you physically.
Breathe deeply and allow the symbol to absorb your awareness.
Observe any thoughts, emotions, or visions that arise.
If needed, engage in a conversation with any entity or energy that appears.
When ready, slowly return to your normal state.
The Benefits: Pathworking facilitates deep inner journeys, enhances spiritual insight, and strengthens visualization skills.
4. Breathwork for Energy Activation
The fourth purpose for meditation involves working with the breath.
Your breath is the gateway to your somatic awareness and energetic activation.
There are distinct intentional breathing practices that you can apply that help you reach altered states of consciousness and access your psychic and magical potential through the breathing.
I use breathwork regularly to help me get into deep altered states of consciousness for when I am working magic or engaged in other activities that require me to access and cultivate my internal energy.
How to Practice:
Rhythmic Breathing – Inhale for four counts, hold for four counts, exhale for four counts. Repeat.
Microcosmic Orbit – Imagine energy traveling from your base up your spine to your head, then down the front of your body, creating a circulating flow.
Color Breathing – Breathe in different colors corresponding to the chakras or energetic needs, using the colors to activate your chakras.
Power Breath – Take a sharp inhale and forcefully exhale, focusing on charging your aura.
The Benefits: These intentional breathing practices increase energy flow, enhance magical work, and strengthens the mind-body connection.

5. Movement Meditation
Another purpose for meditating involves integrating body movements with mental focus. You can do this type of meditation through ecstatic dance, qigong, martial arts or somatic body practices.
I’ve even creating walking meditations that have doubled as magical workings to connect with the spirits of the land!
Movement, when done with intention, can help us cultivate and raise our internal energy and access altered states of awareness we can apply to magical work.
How to Practice:
Begin with a slow, mindful walk or fluid dance movements.
Sync your breath with your movements.
Set an intention (e.g., grounding, expansion, manifestation).
Somatically feel energy flowing through your limbs as you move.
End by standing still and experiencing the aftereffects.
The Benefits: Moving meditation connects physical and spiritual energies, enhances magical embodiment, and helps release stagnant emotions.
Meditation, is not a static practice but a living, evolving art. Whether sitting in stillness, journeying through symbols, or activating energy through breath and movement, meditation opens doors to deeper awareness and magical power. By integrating these techniques into daily practice, you can cultivate profound transformation and a greater connection with the mystical currents of life.
