One of the books I’m reading is Existential Kink (Affiliate link) by Carolyn Elliot. One of the exercises you end up doing is writing out your fears around something you want. You acknowledge what you want and then you list out all your fears around what you want. These fears are blocking you from getting what you want. By externalizing them in written form you bring them out and then you can decide what to do with them.
In the book, the author recommends tearing your fears to pieces, but my go to is flame. I take the papers and put them in a brazier and light them on fire. Then I scatter the ashes at the crossroads I live by, scattering the fears to the elements.
There are many different ways we can work with and release our fears. I like drawing on a variety of techniques, because I recognize that fear can show up in many different forms. In a recent article on here, I discussed allowing yourself to be uncomfortable. That’s another way you can dispel your fears, by spending time with them, and using them to motivate you to do something you don’t want to do or are afraid to do.
