Mastering Money Magic Part 1
From Coin Spells to Wealth Systems: A Magician's Guide to Financial Empowerment
My relationship with money has gone through a radical shift since September of 2024. I left my day job at the end of August, intending to go back to graduate school, only to realize I didn’t actually want to go back to school.
I also didn’t want to go back to that job.
I knew I had to make some decisions, including figuring out what I was going to do to pay my bills. Instead of resorting to money magic to try and bring in specific amounts of money, I decided I needed to change my relationship with money by transforming the way I related to money.
Like many people, I have felt anxiety around money. In the past I’ve felt like I haven’t had enough. That experience of scarcity defined my relationship with money. Sure, I could do some magic to call in money, but I knew what I really needed to do was change my beliefs and habits around money.
Money is a medium and expression of your relationship with abundance and scarcity. Short term money spells can help you out of a fix, but they don’t change the way you relate to money and if you’re always resorting to them, you’re continually operating from a place of scarcity.
The way to change your relationship with money involves doing some deeper inner alchemical transformations where you take ownership of the life you want to create and start working with money as a tool to help you manifest that life.

Understanding Your Wealth Identity
Transforming your relationship with money involves transforming your identity around wealth. In my case, I needed to get clear on what I wanted for my life. It wasn’t just a matter of paying bills on time. It was a fundamental re-orienting around what it meant to live a wealthy life.
What does a wealthy life look like for you? What are the values that you associate with wealth?
Is it:
Freedom
Security
Influence
Travel
Or something else?
In my case, wealth looked like the ability to travel, attend men’s work training and retreats and being able to live on my schedule, while serving my communities. Once I knew what wealth looked like for me, it helped me start working on my psychology of money.
What’s your definition of wealth? What does a wealthy life for you look like? Don’t define it in terms of an amount. Define it in terms of the quality of life you live. Share your definition in the comments.
The Psychology of Money
When the topic of money comes up, what’s the experience that happens in your body?
Is it a feeling of constriction or a sense of numbness?
Or is there an experience of relaxation, of knowing you’ve got enough?
Sit with the experience for a few moments.
What are your three strongest beliefs about money, both in regards to yourself and to other people?
Write them out and reflect on how these beliefs help or hinder your experience of prosperity.
When I did this exercise back in September I had the following beliefs:
I never have enough money.
I always have to struggle.
I have to watch every penny.
I no longer feel this way because I decided to do something radical and personify money. I created the following journal prompts and used them to help me have an ongoing conversation with money.
If money was a person, what would my relationship with them be?
If money was a person, what would money want from me?
What do you think money is?
What’s one thing I can do to become more competent with money? Holding money, making money, spending money, investing money, receiving money.
Answering each of these question in my daily journal helped me start changing my relationship with money. I got better at receiving money instead of demanding money come into my life and this changed my overall experience in general, because I started showing up more confidently in my life.

Financial Literacy as Magical Power
It’s also helpful to have financial literacy. I’ve fortunately known a lot about how to manage money, but I still continue to learn about different areas of finances because it helps me understand how to work with money better as a spiritual and practical force in my life.
If you want to get better at money its important to take the following approach to money:
Learn basic money management: budgeting, saving, investing. When you know how to manage your money, you can make better choices with it, that enhance the overall quality of your life.
Treat financial education as magical training—know the system you’re casting spells within.
When you know the practical side of how finances work, you are ready to work money magic for long term wealth instead of short term scarcity.
In a couple of weeks, I’ll share how you can create a magical system for wealth magic. You can also check out my ultimate guide for Wealth Magic, which provides additional exercises and explorations around wealth.
