This is another article I wrote about my work with Saturn, in this case with Saturn in the guise of liberator. What many people seem to forget about Saturn is that Saturn is a revolutionary, overthrowing the old order to create a new one. Working with Saturn in that particular guise can be useful when you need to free yourself of the chains that bind you. Original article starts below.
When most people think of Saturn from an astrological perspective, they treat Saturn as a malefic force, in part of because the classic mythology associated with Saturn and in part because of Saturn being treated as a limiting and binding force. And while it is true that Saturn represents boundaries and limitations and also embodies fear and what happens when we react from fear, I've also discovered that Saturn can be a liberating force, if worked with properly.
Saturn as a planetary influence invites us to examine our relationship with our own limits and boundaries as well as our relationship with fear.
These are heady topics to consider and its not surprising that some people will shy away from them. Who really wants to come up against their own boundaries or limitations? Who wants to do a deep dive into their fears?
Most people don't want to do either of these things and yet inevitably at some point in our lives we must do a deep dive and be willing to explore our relationships with our boundaries and limitations as well as our fears.
In the last year and a half I've been doing a lot of work with Saturn as a planetary force and what I've come to recognize is that Saturn can be a very potent force to work with if the following considerations are kept in mind:
1. Saturn teaches you how to respect and embody your own boundaries.Â
One of the challenges that most people face is that they don't know their own boundaries and don't know how to enforce them. Saturn will force you to recognize how you aren't honoring your own boundaries as well as other peoples' boundaries and call upon you to make some changes.Â
For example, one of the biggest lessons I learned from my work was recognizing how co-dependent I've been and how that has influenced my relationships. I have let people walk all over me and been a people pleaser, but when I started to really work with Saturn it became very clear that I didn't have good boundaries.
It also became clear that I didn't have a lot of awareness of other peoples' boundaries. I had good intentions but sometimes I have stepped on people's boundaries that have been really heavy.
The only remedy is to discover what your boundaries because as you get better at defining your boundaries you also get better at recognizing the boundaries of other people and you learn how to honor both.
This also translates into better magical workings because you learn how to define your magical boundaries better and enforce them, which is essential if you want to get better results.
2. Saturn teaches you how to discover opportunities within your limits so that you can surpass those limits.
When people come up against their own limitations, they often try to find ways to overcome them. What Saturn teaches us to do instead is learn how to work within our limits.
Working within your limits doesn't sound all that sexy, but when you learn to work within your limits you also discover the opportunities that are available to you.
Often what I observe is that people are so intent on surpassing their limits they fail to recognize the opportunities in front of them. When we work with Saturn what we do is recognize the limits and learn to work within them and when we do this we discover the opportunities.
When I've worked with Saturn this way its helped me also systematically plan for changes in my life that will move me through the limits. Currently I am creating an exit plan out of a job I don't like to do work I want to do, but I worked with Saturn to create that plan and it helped me see the opportunities for graduate school, coaching, and several other possibilities that will take time to manifest but will produce outcomes that get me out of the limits I'm dealing with right now.Â
When you recognize your limits, you also recognize how to work within them to change them.
3. Saturn teaches you how to turn your fears into friends and allies that support your great work.
Perhaps the greatest lesson that Saturn has taught me is how turn my fears into allies and you can learn the same.
How often do we listen to the voice in our head that tells us we can't do something or that we won't succeed? That voice tries to protect us, but it actually prevents us from stepping into our power.
When we work with Saturn we learn how to fully recognize our fears because those fears are embodied in the unconscious expression of our boundaries and limits. When we bring them into the light we discover our fears and we can consciously make friends with them and turn them into allies.
One of the ways I turned my fears into an ally was by accepting the fear I felt around being alone and embracing the opportunity to develop a deeper, more loving relationship with myself. By doing that I also opened myself to the opportunities I was ignoring within the limitations I was operating in.
When we enter into a conscious relationship with our fears we change the relationships with everything the fear was representing. This allows us to make deep changes within our lives and we can only do this by learning how to work with Saturn.
