The counter-intuitive approach to turning scarcity into abundance
And how magic can alchemize the experience of scarcity
Sometimes, it seems like there is a bucketful of advice around how to adopt an abundance mindset. And honestly, most of it irritates me because it comes off as spiritual bypassing, such as:
The law of attraction, which makes the argument that you attract whatever you are experiencing because of your mindset.
The advice is irritating because it makes an assumption that YOU are the problem and that if you just change the way you think/feel you’ll fix the problem.
That’s never worked for me. It reinforces a sense of being at fault, or that there is something wrong with me. The usual advice assumes that if you just change your mentality and emotions that will “fix” the issue.
But what if there’s a better way for handling the experience of scarcity?

What I’m going to suggest is counter-intuitive, but it works and when you do it, it transforms your relationship with money, abundance and scarcity, while letting go of the spiritual bypassing.
The main problem when try spiritually bypass scarcity is that what we’re really doing is sweeping it under the rug and putting it in to shadow and that’s when it sabotages us. The shadow of scarcity undermines us in both subtle and overt ways that actually keeps us from the abundance we want to bring into our lives:
You find yourself focusing on the cost of everything, instead of appreciating the value.
You get stuck on why money isn’t flowing toward you.
You fixate on how much you don’t have, instead of appreciating what you actually have.
You don’t look at what you can do to learn more about your relationship with your scarcity or abundance patterns.
Explore - How do you transform you relationship with scarcity, abundance and money?
The key to transforming to your relationship with scarcity is to lean into the discomfort you feel around scarcity. You’ve got to get curious about your experience around scarcity. When you do that you open the doors to possibility.
So many people feel shame around their experience of scarcity. They frame it as a commentary on who they are, which makes since because of how society shames people around money.
The reason society shames around money (and scarcity) is because: When a person feels shame they are disempowered.
That serves a few special interests, but doesn’t serve people in general.
The antidote to shame is to get curious about your scarcity patterns. Too often people assume that the problem around their experience of scarcity is themselves, but there’s actually a few causes:
Ancestral trauma around scarcity - The majority of us are carrying this trauma. If you had an ancestor who lived through the great depression for example, then you’re carrying some epigenetic trauma as well as learned behaviors that have been passed down by your family.
Lack of financial literacy - We aren’t taught how to work with money, in terms of managing it or investing it. Often we learn from observing our parents and if they don’t have those skills we’re not going to learn them either, unless we get curious.
Bad money habits - We learn bad money habits, especially in this day and age when its easy to get a dopamine hit when we order something. People get into debt because they don’t learn to discipline themselves.
All of these causes can be worked through, and it requires a willingness and commitment to get curious about the causes without holding onto shame around the scarcity.
Think about these three causes and how they show up in your life. Take out your journal and explore:
What is your family/ancestral patterns and history with scarcity?
What do you want to learn about abundance, money and wealth?
What are the money habits you have and how aren’t they serving you?
Journaling about these questions can provide valuable insights you can use in your work with abundance.

Engage - How to use habit stacking to change your scarcity patterns
When you recognize what your habits around money are and how those habits feed into scarcity or abundance in your life, you can make changes to those habits to encourage more abundance in your life.
For example, I got into the habit of stretching and exercising each morning. This habit creates a sense of abundance in my life because I am taking care of myself. That act of taking care of myself helps me tap into the abundance of my life and look for other ways I can increase that abundance. What I do is stack habits that encourage creativity, abundance, self-care on top of each other, while limiting or releasing habits that don’t encourage these behaviors.
Track all of your habits. Which habits increase your creativity, abundance and overall well-being? Which habits create scarcity, in your life?
Next choose one habit you want to let go of and replace it with a habit you’d like to take on. For example, if you find yourself scrolling on your phone and you want to change that habit, consider a habit you want to take on, because of how it will improve your well being.
Remember some of this is a physiology game. In other words, the right habits can improve your overall sense of well-being and you can plan for that by understanding how your physiology responds to the habits you choose.
Embody - How to heal your family patterns around scarcity
We carry the shadows of our ancestors in our lives. Those shadows show up in the patterns of behavior that we have around scarcity. We can heal those patterns in ourselves AND heal our ancestors when we take time to recognize that patterns of scarcity are usually inherited patterns.
For example, I used to have a need to be recognized. For a long time I thought it was a me issue. Then I discovered it was actually an inherited issue, from my father’s side of the family. It helped me realize that I didn’t have to change the behavior in me, so much as change it with my family.
I ended up doing an ancestral magic working where I connected with my ancestors and helped them heal their need for recognition, which consequently helped me heal my own issue around recognition.
Identify a scarcity pattern you want to change in your life.
Take a breath and allow yourself to connect deeply with your body.
Where does that pattern exist in your body? What does it feel like, look like, and sound like?
Go deeper into the experience. Is there someone that comes to mind when you let this experience in fully? Is there a family pattern?
If you find there is a family experience to this scarcity pattern, now is the time to do a magical working or ritual. If you need ideas for how to do that, click the button to comment.
